You’ve heard of Island Living, or maybe even being on Island Time. So what’s the big deal about working and living on Vancouver Island?
Looking for an area with world-class outdoor activities, warm weather year-round, and friendly, safe neighbourhoods? A small city that offers both adventure and culture? Then consider moving to the Nanaimo area!
Okay, this might be low-hanging fruit, but the Nanaimo area really does allow you to enjoy the great outdoors all year round. Not only because of the great weather but also due to the wide variety of adventures that are literally right outside your door. Close to mountains, lakes, rivers, hiking spots, and bike trails, your days will be filled with fresh air and beautiful scenery.
Physios tend to be active folk, and Nanaimo is a perfect location for anyone looking to pursue an active, outdoor lifestyle. With a wide variety of activities accessible in the Nanaimo area, whatever you’re into – kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, golfing – there’s sure to be a local spot to find, club to join, or team to try out for.
Nanaimo itself is a hub of activity, but it’s also conveniently nestled within travelling distance of Vancouver, Victoria, and the Comox Valley region. It’s a quick ferry to big-city shopping in Vancouver, a short drive to catch a show in Victoria, and a blast up the Parkway to hit the slopes of Mt Washington.
Living on Vancouver Island provides a unique opportunity to have a healthy work-life balance. The city of Nanaimo is a rather laid-back city, and thanks to our pedal-friendly trails and roads biking to work takes pretty much the same time as driving.
Nanaimo is a hub of music and arts, and boasts the modern and beautiful Port Theatre where world-class musical and theatrical acts perform. The active downtown core also features a range of galleries and other cultural hotspots, and a great variety of eclectic and locally-owned boutique shops.
Vancouver Island has incredible – and still affordable – homes and properties available. The word has gotten out, but Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island are still within reach. Despite the appeal and growth, an equivalent home in Victoria or Vancouver will still cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars more.
If Nanaimo sounds like a place you’d like to practice, take the next step!
